Actress Jennifer Hudson will return to the big screen next month in the leading role for the new film 'Winnie'. The movie is based on the life of Nelson Mandela's wife Winnie who survived her husband's imprisonment, police harassment, and more than a year in solitary confinement. Jennifer will play the role of Winnie while Nelson will be played by actor Terrence Howard.
The preview started off a little boring for me but got good towards the end. It will be interesting to see how well the movie performs in theaters being that it is just now being promoted so close to the release date.
Will you be seeing this film? -
I was honestly expecting huge numbers to turn out in the theaters over the weekend in support of the remake of 'Sparkle' which stars the late Whitney Houston and singer Jordan Sparks. I guess all of us African Americans are still scared to go to the movies which will explain why the movie only brought in $12 million despite the huge buzz around the project.
Did you go see Sparkle? Let us know below. -
In news that will excite many of writer and director Patrik Ian Polk's fans, it has officially been announced that his new movie #TheSkinny will head to LOGO next month. Patrik is no stranger when it comes to the LOGO network being that they were the one to air his original scripted series 'Noah's Arc' which became hugely popular.
I am so excited to see this movie come to television. I saw it in theaters and cannot wait to see the Twitter commentary during its telecast. The movie is about five friends that attended college together that decided to meet up for a weekend of fun which turns into pure DRAMA.
#TheSkinny will air July 8th at 10 PM on LOGO! Read my movie review here. -
Mogul Tyler Perry has released a new extended trailer for his newest film Madea's Witness Protection. The film is about a family that have been placed in witness protection due to them being sought after from a mob. This clip is a lot better than the original snippet that Perry released a month ago.
Can Tyler Perry introduce another character because I am honestly getting tired of Madea. I can't wait for his television show 'For Better Or Worse' to return to television this Fall. -
Shaunie sure knows how to milk a cow dry doesn't she?Shaunie O'neal is teaming up with Tracey Edmonds (who I am shocked is even doing this) to make Basketball Wives The Movie. I guess you can't knock a chick's hustle. But I will say this every last one of you that are shaking ya'll heads know ya'll are going to go see it. Don't lie!Via Miss JiaFox Searchlight has acquired an untitled pitch from “Jumping the Broom” producer Tracey Edmonds and “Basketball Wives” star Shaunie O’Neal. “Broom” scribe Elizabeth Hunter will pen the script, with Edmonds and O’Neal producing under the former’s Our Stories Films banner. Shingle’s Glendon Palmer and Phil Robinson will exec produce.O’Neal, the ex-wife of NBA superstar Shaquille O’Neal, exec produces and stars in VH1′s “Basketball Wives.”Drawing loosely from the lives of O’Neal and some of her friends, the Searchlight project centers around a young woman who follows her boyfriend to Miami after he gets drafted into the NBA. Thrust into the world of professional sports, she meets the other players’ wives and learns from their trials and tribulations.“The beauty of a feature film is that we’ll have the ability to dig much deeper into the stories and characters that come from this very colorful world and create a very juicy, action-packed narrative,” Edmonds told Variety, adding that O’Neal originally reached out to the producer via Twitter.Cheers to a movie full of pulling hair, cursing, jumping over table and throwing wine bottles also.

With the excessive amount of promotion which was done for the new movie 'Think Like A Man', I am not surprised that the film grossed an impressive $33 million this weekend. The movie was made for only $13 million and stars Michael Ealy, Kevin Hart, Regina Hall, Meagan Good, and Jerry Ferrara. The movie defeated the recent streak of the 'Hunger Games' movie and even debuted higher that Tyler Perry's most recent films (Madea's Big Happy Family $25 mil; Good Deeds $15 mil). The movie also features many cameos from celebs such as Kelly Rowland, Chris Brown, and Keri Hilson.

I'm not excited about Tyler Perry 'Madea' movies like I use to be. Now it seems that the writer/actor throws out movies for a quick coin. Ugh. But like most I will be at the movie theatre to see his newest movie this Summer. The movie, 'Madea Witness Protection', is about a investment banker and his family that are placed in witness protection and forced to live in Madea's home.
Tyler Perry's new film hits theaters June 29th. The movie also stars Romeo Miller. -

It was a full house in Atlanta on Saturday night as the cast and producer of 'The Skinny' joined supporters at the Landmark Theatre in Midtown Atlanta for the premiere. The theatre was so full that benches had to be brought in to accommodate the overflow. Many people are very familiar with the Noah's Arc series which is why it came to no surprise that many rushed out to catch Patrik-Ian Polk's new film that featured the LGBT community. I entered the theatre thinking that I would sit the entire time comparing each character in the film to the characters in Noah's Arc; however, I was wrong. The film starts out explaining the purpose from the jump. Five friends that graduated from NYC's Brown University meet up for a weekend of fun in the big city. Everything starts off good before scandal and heartbreak rocks the circle and causes things to over boil. Relationship problems, drugs, and sex are just some of the topics which were focused upon in the film.I commend Patrik-Ian Polk for shining light on some of the things that really go on in our community. The crowd really got a tickle during the movie when one character taught another how to 'fleet' before sex. During the Q&A following the film, an audience member applauded Patrik for educating the audience about the matter via his craft. Another touchy subject that was shown during the film was the 'sex party' scene. Come on, we all know that these things go on in the community so lets not pretend. And for the matter of drugs, Patrik shed light on how the transitions goes down in the club and leads to regrets the following morning. I also like how Patrik slipped in some important information about HIV/AIDS transmission without being preachy. The film was packed with great actors and actresses that displayed raw emotion and personalities from start to finish. There wasn't one time that I compared one character to another one from his previous work. I was caught off guard by the numerous scenes of nudity shown in the film, including a scene from a porno flick. Like the rest of the theatre, I was excited to see some familiar faces from the Noah's Arc series included in the film.I highly suggest that you guys go see the film.Patrik revealed during the Q&A session that the sequel to the film will be shot in Atlanta. Also, the movie will be sent to LOGO this Summer. The film will run thru Thursday in Atlanta. Find your city and premiere date on SkinnyTheMovie.com!

What an absolutely amazing night I had working with the cast of Patrik Ian Polk's new film 'The Skinny'. The movie premiered last night in Midtown Atlanta to a sold out show. Before the film, the cast took the time to pose for pictures with supporters of the film.
Following the premiere, we headed over to XS Lounge in Midtown and also Club 595 North for the after-parties. Thanks so much to the club promoters for making the night wonderful.
The cast and Patrik are a wonderful group of people. I honestly felt like family while assisting the team. I will never forget last night. Nonetheless, expect a full review of the movie this evening.

The creator of the hit series Noah's Arc returns with his brand new movie 'The Skinny'. The movie is based on the lives of five friends whom graduated from NYC's Brown University and meet up for a weekend of fun and catching up so they think.
Catch the preview for the film below. Purchase tickets for Atlanta here; and DC here. -
Singer Whitney Houston had just recently finished filming the remake of the classic film 'Sparkle'. The singer looks radiant and quite healthy in the trailer which was released today for the movie. Watching this trailer really breaks my heart knowing that Whitney was just getting herself back together.
Sparkle hits theaters this August. -
It is no secret that we were all upset when the LOGO Network decided to not renew popular LGBT series 'Noah's Arc' due to 'funding issues'. Was that really the case or did they not want a positive show aimed towards African American males on their network? The show centered around four homosexual males that dealt with real issues involving romance, career movements, and more.
Creator Patrik-Ian Polk has since moved on to new projects and has a new film coming out titled 'The Skinny' which will be in select theaters on April 6th. The film is about five friends that attend Brown University and like the cast of Noah's Arc, all deal with day-to-day problems and decisions. Patrik-Ian Polk casted a female lesbian as one of the main character's which I feel is definitely a good idea if he wanted to pull in a large number from that spectrum of the LGBT community.
I applaud Patrik-Ian for shining such positive light on the community via his work. The real question is will the urban LGBT community go and support the movie like we did for the premiere of the Noah's Arc film? From the looks of the preview, the movie is going to be better than Patrik's past work if I may say. In all honesty, with the proper promotional tactics and PR team, the film should do just fine. I encourage the gay's to push for high first weekend numbers like our people do for Tyler Perry films. Don't just take your BFF's, grab some of your heterosexual friends too.
Peep the clip below. Will you support the film? Comment below. -
Who was surprised that Octavia Spencer won an Oscar last night? The actress has been on a role this award season winning basically all acting awards for her supporting actress role in the movie adapted 'The Help'. It is hard to believe that just a few year's ago she was acting along side Queen Latifah in 'Beauty Shop'.Watch the emotional Octavia Spencer give her acceptance speech for winning Best Supporting Actress for 'the Help' below.
