• Despite many negative reviews and a petition to stop it from airing, Tyler Perry's new scripted series The Have & The Have Nots delivered record ratings for the OWN Network this week. The 9 PM airing on Tuesday night drew in 1.77 million viewerss with the rerun at 10 PM drawing in 1.8 million viewers. The premiere of the show, which is OWN's first scripted drama, marks the networks highest ever series premiere throughout any of its shows.

I'm not quite sold on the show just yet. The filming for the series looks a tadbit cheap compared to that of his hit TBS hit series For Better or For Worse. The show was also a bit dry mocking that of many long running soap operas.

The show has received nothing but negative reviews with many blasting Oprah for bringing Tyler Perry's negative depiction of black people to her network.

The question remains on whether the series will continue to bring in good ratings following the premiere. Thoughts?

  • It seems that singer/songwriter The-Dream's big name features weren't enough to make people want to go out and buy his new album 'IV Play'. The-Dream's new album is only expected to sell between 18-21k copies during its first week on store shelves. The album features collaborations with artists such as Beyonce, Kelly Rowland, and Jay-Z to name a few.

I must admit that I think that The-Dream, whose real name is Terius Nash, lost a large part of his fanbase when his infidelity scandal with ex-wife Christina Milian surfaced years ago. While he hasn't been one to sell many records, his career has suffered a steady decline since the incident.

I actually liked a vast majority of his latest project.

Thoughts? Check out 'Where Have You Been' ft. Kelly Rowland below.

  • Kelly Rowland may be slaying the urban charts but she still hasn't ditched her dance fans. Kelly teams up with Norwegian rap group Madcon for a new Summer anthem titled 'One Life'. The track has a huge potential to be big overseas.

While I do miss Kelly's dance anthems, I think I am enjoying her R&B side a tadbit more.

  • The LGBT community is ready to 'stomp' gospel MC Kirk Franklin after being paid $80,000 to headline DC's Emancipation Day celebration. The community is upset because Kirk was paid government tax dollars after calling out the gay community and telling them to 'abandon the homosexual lifestyle.'

I honestly don't see what the fuss is about since he didn't make any negative or derogatory remarks towards the community. The community has been rather sensitive lately and have had it out for every public figure including Lauryn Hill who caught heat for some lyrics in her new record.

'We can never compromise what the bible says about homosexuality,' says Kirk who also called for the church to treat the LGBT community with love. [Source]

What are your thoughts? Is the LGBT community fishing for nothing?

  • Is it me or is pop sensation Jessie J channeling P!nk with her latest project? Jessie released the video for her well received new single 'Wild' which features rappers Big Sean and Dizzee Rascal. The song is definitely a Summer jam which I'm sure will be blazing at all the hot pool parties.

I'm not quite sold on Jessie's J new haircut which she cut for charity.

Do you like the new Jessie J?

  • Talkshow queen Oprah Winfrey made a return to daytime television this week by surprising morning show co-host Kelly & Michael during their interview with good friend Tyler Perry. Tyler stopped by to promote his new OWN television scripted series 'The Have & The Have-Nots' which premiered last night on Oprah's network.

It is no secret that Kelly is a huge fan of Oprah's even prompting Tyler to call her live on air during his last appearance on the show.

Tyler is also planning to bring his hit TBS show For Better or For Worse to the OWN Network later this year.

Did you tune into Tyler's new show?

  • Why is BET still trying to make Real Husbands of Hollywood happen? The 'scripted reality' show will air their reunion special tonight which is hosted by reality star Lala Vasquez-Anthony.

I never really found this show to be funny or entertaining which explains why I never watched it past the first episode.

On another note, the show will return later this year minus Robin Thicke.

    Will you be tuning in?

  • Actress/Singer Keke Palmer looks every bit of sexy on the new issue of Kontrol Magazine. Keke jetted to Atlanta for the shoot which featured fashions from the 'Kontrol the Runway' winner Rachel Mills.

Keke contantly enjoyed the sound of JoJo's 'Andre' while on set for the shoot. [Source]

I'm really rooting for Keke's musical career. The girl has talent but needs a producer who will showcase her maturity vocally. Hopefully, Keke's new collaboration with producer Bangladesh takes her to a new level.

Go BTS of the shoot below.

  • Beyonce is no longer playing when it comes to putting your hands on her during her performances. The singer threatened to have a fan escorted out after he smacked her butt during her performance of 'Halo' over the weekend. This is the second time a fan has placed their hands on Bey during this tour, the first being when one of the BeyHive members tugged at her lace a month ago.

'I will have you escorted out of her now,' says Beyonce.

Beyonce is currently wrapping up the international tour dates for her Mrs. Carter World Tour. Beyonce will begin the US leg of her tour on June 28th.

  • Nicki Minaj made her return to NYC's Hot 97 this morning to confront radio personality Peter Rosenberg. If you recall, Nicki abruptly cancelled her performance minutes before being scheduled to hit the stage at Summer Jam 2012 because of negative comments made on the mic by Rosenberg.

I guess Nicki realized she should have made up with the radio station being that it is in one of the biggest markets in the world.

'I apologize for not coming out and doing the show because they [her fans] had nothing to do with it,' says Nicki Minaj.

  • VH1 premiered their second original scripted series last night to the tune of Hit The Floor. The show chronicles the life of Ahsha, a girl who joins a professional basketball dance team unaware of the treacherous and tempting world that follows.

The show has some familiar faces including actress Kimberly Elise and Beyonce's very notable dancer Ashley Everett.

Overall, the show was good. I enjoy the filming techniques used by the people who film the scripted series for the network.

Will you be tuning into the second episode?

  • It seems like everyone is trying to get themselves a piece of Kendrick Lamar. Singer Emile Sande added her own spin on the rappers 'B*tch Don't Kill My Vibe' single. Emile's voice is a nice edition to the track which was already one of my favorites.

Kendrick returned the favor by appearing on Emile's 'Next To Me' hit single.

  • Kelly Rowland stopped by Raheen DeVaughn's Blis FM radio show for a special Memorial Day edition. Kelly teased a few snippets of her new material from her new album 'Talk A Good Game' which hits stores on June 18th. Kelly included the highly anticipated 'You Changed' which features her former bandmates Michelle Williams and Beyonce.

Kelly also discussed her new deal with FOX for the X-Factor US.

'It was a phone call from Simon which was pretty late. I remember calling my manager saying. Simon just called me. He basically made me an offer that I couldn't refuse. I remember my experience on the X-Factor UK and I thoroughly enjoyed it,' says Kelly.

  • Solange Knowles unexpectedly treated fans to the remix of her track Looks Good With Trouble from her TRUE EP. Solange teams up with rapper Kendrick Lamar for the full track which she performed during her tour stop in Atlanta a few months ago.

    Listen below.

  • Singer Solange teams up with Refinery29.com and Absolut Tune to deliver a fresh Summer video for her track Locked In Closets. Even though it's only a mini video, this is by far one of my most favorite visuals from Solo.

The track appears on Solange's latest EP True which you can purchase here

  • Singer Ciara stopped by auntie Wendy Williams talk show yesterday to promote her current single and upcoming album. Ciara's 'Body Party' saw unexpected success last week when it premiered at #35 on Billboard's Hot 100 chart due largely in part to the new rules.

Being the messy man that he is, Wendell decided to bring up Ciara's feud with popstar Rihanna.

'I've said all that I need to say about her and I'm in a totally different space. It's all positive and love from my perspective and how I get down. I wish her well,' says Ciara.

Ciara also flaunted her tattoo via her ring finger which has the initials of her boo Future

  • AH-mazing! Singer Janelle Monae may have easily just landed herself video of the year with the release of the visuals for her current single 'Q.U.E.E.N.' which features Erykah Badu. Janelle steps out of her comfort zone in the clip to deliver us a new look and some hot dance moves.

Janelle never ceases to amaze me with her growth and originality. Did I mention how good Erykah looked too?

    Discuss.
