With a stellar cast of familiar faces such as, Traci Ellis Ross, Malcolm-Jamal Warner, Anna Maria Horsford and Melissa De Sousa this show had the ability to become a huge hit. It was something new and refreshing to TV for the African American Community. In my opinion it was something that was very much needed on TV.
Some people didn't like the show but I loved it. I felt it depicted another side of African Amercan families. Two stable professional, educated mother and father loving each other while providing for their families. RBTL was a breath of fresh air. While not doing so bad in the ratings department the show was often slammed calling it boring and a snooze fest. I felt that people have gotten so used to African American society acting a damn fool on TV they didn't want to watch this show yet alone give it a chance.
NOW HERE'S WHERE THE TEA COMES IN...
BET recently had their 2012 Upfronts revealing what shows were coming back and what new shows were premiering. With notables like The Game and Let's Stay Together obviously returning RBTL was very questionable. Alot of people did not feel as if it deserved to be renewed. But it wasn't because of the ratings or acting per say. Perhaps it was because of some questionable changes of this show that could totally change the dynamics of what this show stands for...
According to a VERY reliable source there may be some changes in the cast and the whole premise of the show. Allegedly Traci Ellis Ross may not be returning to Reed Between The Lines because she has a new show leaving less room to work on RBTL. Also it was said that Anna Maria Horsford also has a new show so she would not be returning either.
My source also revealed that there would be no more filming in the office so there was no need for Anna and possibly Melissa's character to return to the show. It was thrown in the air that if Traci did not return to the show they will make it seem as if she divorced Malcolm's character and left him to raise the kids alone. But that would be a little absorb because Malcolm's character is the stepfather not the actual father. So why or how could she leave her kids with him and walk out on all of them.
I think if this show was to go in this route it would completely be ruined. It would ruin the image and premise of this show and what it stands for. Hopefully everything works out for the better cause if not, Chile....
Will you be watching Season 2 of Reed Between The Lines?
